Is this website reliable, trustworthy, accurate and regularly updated?
Absolutely not. It was set up on a whim, I haven't bothered to take the next steps, such as
finding more councils and their recycling regimes, and at this stage (late 2023) I don't think
that I will bother to take it any further.
What is going to happen to this website and email service after Christmas 2019?
That's a very specific question, I am glad you asked!
The future is very uncertain. The service is run on a system run by SGP IT Consultancy, which is a company that
is about to be shut down [ and was shut down in early 2020 ]. So for now, the two very brief responses are:
Your Christmas emails will be wrong. Please check with your local council for correct information.
After Christmas, this service may stop without notice.
This is not a particularly expensive service to run; I set it up for fun and we have a few dozen users... If we each put in £3 per month,
it would be viable to continue. If we each sign up 2 new users, then it would only be £1 each per month... If we each signed up our whole
street, it would be so cheap we wouldn't even notice it. If you are interested in making this a paid-for service, do get in touch at
support@binnight.co.uk.
What is this website?
We work out all the different routes for a council's bin collection service, and work out what that means for you, each week.
When you've registered, it'll automatically show you your next bin collection on the front page.
You don't tell us your actual address - normally we can give your bin collection details just by your postcode; if there is more than one pattern of bin collections, we will ask you which set of houses you are in, but not your full address. (You can check what [if anything] we'll ask you by putting the postcode in the search box on the front page).
It'll also send you reminders the night before (or in the morning, if that's when you put them out), so that you know (a) that it's bin night, and (b) which bins to put out.
How is this website linked with my council?
It is not. It's a totally independent operation, providing what is hopefully a useful service.
You got my bin information wrong!
This can happen; it hasn't happened yet, as we're rolling out slowly, but there are over 350 councils across the UK, each with typically a few dozen different bin collection routes. Please contact support and we will get it fixed ASAP.
Who runs this website?
An IT guy who thought it would be a fun project. See sgpit.com for more about me. But I don't own the sgpit.com domain now; nothing there is anything to do with me.
